Grafting involves joining tissues from two plants so they grow as one. A scion from the desired plant is attached to a rootstock, and the cambium layers must align so the vascular tissues fuse and a continuous flow of water and nutrients is established. When this bond forms, the resulting plant carries traits from both parts, effectively uniting two different plants to grow as one. This is the essence of grafting. It’s a vegetative propagation method, not sexual reproduction, and while it can enable desirable combinations and quicker production under some circumstances, the defining idea is the unification of two plants into a single organism.
